Sanofi-Aventis zieht die Reissleine und bricht alle klinischen Studien zu Acomplia® ab. Die Europäische Arzneimittelbehörde EMEA hatte letzte Woche empfohlen, die Zulassung für das Mittel ausser Kraft zu setzen, worauf das Unternehmen das Medikament vom Markt nahm.
Mit dem Aus für die Diätpille Acomplia® (Rimonabant) kann Abschied genommen werden von dem Ansatz, über das Endocannabinoid-System genauer die Cannabinoid-Rezeptoren den Appetit des Menschen zu beeinflussen und so eine geringere Energieaufnahme und Gewichtsverlust zu bewirken.
Merck & Co. hatte Anfang Oktober die klinischen Studien mit Taranabant, einem Wirkstoff aus der gleichen Klasse wie in Acomplia®, wegen der Nebenwirkungen gestoppt, die eine Zulassung unwahrscheinlich machten.
