Happy Ada Lovelace Day – oder: The updated feminist: Brief an Lisbeth Salander

/static/content/blog/salander.jpg

Liebe Lisbeth Salander,

Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging … to draw attention to the achievements of women in technology and science. Women’s contributions often go unacknowledged, their innovations seldom mentioned, their faces rarely recognised. We want you to tell the world about these unsung heroines, whatever they do. It doesn’t matter how new or old your blog is, what gender you are, what language you blog in, or what you normally blog about – everyone is invited.

HAPPY ADA LOVELACE DAY!

Dear Lisbeth Salander,

today is a very special day because it‘s Ada Lovelace Day. Now you, of course, won‘t be able to celebrate it, since you are stuck in my bookshelf between many many pages. And despite your invisibility you are one of the many women to be celebrated today:

Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging … to draw attention to the achievements of women in technology and science. Women’s contributions often go unacknowledged, their innovations seldom mentioned, their faces rarely recognised. We want you to tell the world about these unsung heroines, whatever they do. It doesn’t matter how new or old your blog is, what gender you are, what language you blog in, or what you normally blog about – everyone is invited. (findingada.com)

I thought of you in particular because you are not one, but many women. You are independent, smart, mysterious, an „updated feminist“, a modern Pippi Longstocking, you are a textbook example of a geek, an international super-hero-crime-fighter-and-maths-genius. You are example, replica and imagination – all in one. And the best part is – you were created by a man! (or as they say on stieglarsson.com: Stieg Larsson: The man behind Lisbeth Salander.)

On that note:

HAPPY ADA LOVELACE DAY!
