Frag' doch den Österreicher
Die Grenzen zwischen Werbung und redaktionellen Inhalt werden in Österreich nicht nur bei Medikamenten und Gesundheitsprodukten locker überwunden. Das Video zeigt einen Spot des Mobilfunkbetreiber telering, der mit “Frag’ doch den Inder” eine dämliche, aber ziemlich erfolgreiche Kampagne lanciert hat. Die Bekanntheit des “Inders” kann man in unserem Nachbarland schon nach 4 Monaten nur mit “Clementine” (Ariel), “Tilly” (Palmolive) oder “Frau Antje” (niederländischer Käse), den Werbeikonen der 70er Jahre, vergleichen. Im Dezember erschien zum Werbespot sogar ein knapp drei Minuten langer Song auf CD. Sein Erfolg ist bis nach Indien gedrungen.
Der Inder macht Karriere und wird Kandidat bei der ORF-Tanzshow “Dancing Stars”, in der Semi-Prominente holprig ihre Beine sortieren. Der ORF betont angesichts der Kritik, der Einsatz von Ramesh Nair auf dem Parkett könnte als Product-Placement für den Mobilfunkbetreiber gewertet werden, dass er als “Musicaldarsteller und Choreograph” gecastet worden wäre. Er werde “selbstverständlich als Person Ramesh Nair und in keiner anderen Rolle und Funktion auftreten”. Vielleicht sollte er vor jeder Show sagen: “Ich bin der Pfälzer”, denn Nair hat 1975 in Landau in der Pfalz das Licht der Welt erblickt.
Wenn er seine Sache gut macht, freut sich nicht nur telering. Auch der Wiener Volksoper kommt der Nairs Einsatz, in dem Musical „Guys and Dolls“ als Choreograph mitwirkt, das am 1. März Premiere hat, sicher nicht ungelegen. Das ist Österreich.

Übrigens ist der Chef der Werbeagentur, die den Inder kreiert hat, “stolz darauf, einen Migranten in Österreichs Werbung vorkommen zu lassen”. Nair spricht nach eigenen Bekunden mit seinen Geschwistern pfälzisch und versteht kaum Malayalam, die Sprache seiner Eltern, die an der Südwestküste Indiens gesprochen wird.
