Gesunde Skepsis, Verschwörungsideologie, oder Wahn?
Forscher des Psychologischen Instituts der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz fanden in Deutschland “einen eindeutigen, unglaublich starken Zusammenhang” zwischen Verschwörungsmentalität und Befürwortung alternativer Behandlungsmethoden:
“Je stärker die Verschwörungsmentalität einer Person ausgeprägt ist, desto mehr befürwortet diese Person alternative Verfahren und umso mehr lehnt sie konventionelle Heilmethoden wie Impfungen oder Antibiotika ab.”
Das ist Evolution durch natürliche Selektion – live. Wenn konventionelle Auffassungen (Impfungen schützen vor Infektionen, Antibiotika heilen zumindest bakterielle Infektionen) zutreffen, sollten Impfgegner und Anhänger “alternativer” Verfahren innerhalb weniger Generationen ausgestorben sein oder sich zumindest nicht signifikant vermehrt haben.
Warum beschäftige ich mich überhaupt mit Konzepten zu Verschwörungstheorien? Weil ich als Psycho täglich mit der Frage konfrontiert bin, ob bestimmte Hypothesen funktional oder dysfunktional (und im letzteren Fall potenziell falsifizierbar) sind.
Das fängt an mit den Depressiven, die sich grundsätzlich schlecht und schuldig fühlen (hier setze ich oft an, indem ich das Grundsätzliche hinterfrage), und es hört mit den Paranoiden, die komplexe Beeinträchtigungs- und Verfolgungsszenarien erleben, noch lange nicht auf (hier setze ich oft damit an, die Auswirkungen auf das Individuum und auf seine Selbstwertregulation zu fokussieren).
Nach meiner Erfahrung und Einschätzung sind die Übergänge von gesundem Misstrauen zu Verschwörungstheorien bis hin zu wahnhafter Erlebnisverarbeitung fließend.
Es gibt ein paar cutoffs: jemand mit gesundem Misstrauen oder kritischer Distanz zu vorgefertigten Meinungen ist durchaus in der Lage, seine eigenen Konstrukte zu hinterfragen, mit anderen abzugleichen und gegebenenfalls zu falsifizieren. Man kann miteinander argumentieren, streiten, Meinungen austauschen, sich überzeugen lassen oder andere überzeugen. Skeptiker zweifeln aus Prinzip, fordern aber Belege von sich und anderen.
Anhänger einer Verschwörungsideologie haben demgegenüber Schwierigkeiten, andere Sichtweisen zuzulassen. Verschwörungstheoretisches Denken ist nämlich eine Art kognitive Heuristik, um mit unwahrscheinlichen Ereignissen umzugehen. Verschwörungstheorien sind außerdem ein Mittel von Leuten geworden, die sich marginalisiert fühlen oder Angst haben, marginalisiert zu werden, oder die Geld damit verdienen.
Skeptisch werden sollte man spätestens dann, wenn Verschwörer als ungewöhnlich kompetent beschrieben werden:
“In der realen Welt sind die Verschwörungen eher klein und begrenzt, etwa um ein Verbrechen zu vertuschen oder eine Versicherung zu betrügen. In der Welt der Verschwörungstheorien hingegen gibt es diese großen, ausgeklügelten Plots, um globale Ereignisse anzustoßen oder uns alle zu versklaven. Diese großen Pläne werden nahezu perfekt ausgeführt, aber sie hinterlassen trotzdem gerade genug Spuren, dass Verschwörungstheoretiker ihnen auf die Schliche kommen können.”
Anhänger von Verschwörungsideologien sind insgesamt entfremdeter und sozial isolierter. In der Theorie stabilisiert die Verschwörungstheorie ihr Selbstbild: sie macht sie zu etwas Besonderem.
Leider gibt es keine einfache Definition des Begriffes “Verschwörungstheorie”. Wikipedia unterscheidet Verschwörungshypothesen, die rationale und überprüfbare Aussagen über angenommene Verschwörungen machen, und Verschwörungsideologien, die stereotype und monokausale Vorstellungen über Verschwörungen gegen kritische Revision immunisieren.
Für den einen Experten besteht eine Verschwörungstheorie aus drei Komponenten: Es gibt erstens ein Kollektiv, eine Gruppe von Verschwörern; zweitens existiert ein Plan, den diese Gruppe angeblich verfolgt; und dieser wird drittens im Geheimen ausgeführt. Im Unterschied zu Verschwörungshypothesen und Verschwörungsideologien sind Wahnsymptome in der Regel keine kollektiven, sondern sehr individuelle Phänomene. Wahnkranke entwickeln Vorstellungsbilder, die sie mit der Realität verwechseln, weil dadurch die Illusion entsteht, Gewissheit (und damit Macht) zu haben. Der Wahn ist die private, nur persönlich gültige lebensbestimmende Überzeugung (pdf) eines Menschen von sich selber und seiner Welt.

Es wird viel geschrieben über Massentierhaltung, also große Ställe mit vielen Tieren, die sich dort gegenseitig auf die Füße treten. Im Gegensatz dazu behaupten Landwirte gerne, dass das Tierwohl für sie extrem wichtig sei und sie sich um ihre Tiere kümmerten. Tiere müssten sich wohl fühlen, um gesund zu sein. Die (Ohn)Macht des Individuums
Da es zu meinem letzten Beitrag zum Thema Klimawandel einige Kommentare gab, die die Ohnmacht des Individuums beklagten, bzw. als unumstreitbare Realität bezeichnen, möchte ich einen ersten und einfach realisierbaren Lösungsansatz vorschlagen (dass man aufhören sollte, in den Urlaub zu fliegen, wissen eh schon alle).
