Publish and Perish
Erinnern Sie sich noch, vor einer ganzen Weile liess ich mich darüber aus, wie Peer Review funktioniert und warum das Geschäft der klassischen Wissenschaftsverlage veraltet, ja hinderlich ist. Der Linguist Geoffrey Pullum weist in einem kurzen Beitrag auf einen krassen Fall hin. Wie es seine Art ist, macht er dann noch sehr deutlich, wie das Geschäftsprinzip auf andere Lebensbereich zu übertragen ist.
Wahr und klar und schön – was motiviert Laureaten?
Was macht einen anspruchsvollen Fachvortrag zu einer tollen Präsentation, die auch für ein gemischtes Publikum, wie hier beim Heidelberg Laureate Forum geeignet ist? Es sind meiner Meinung vor allem drei Faktoren, um das Publikum für sich zu gewinnen: Wer es schafft die eigene Forschung historisch einzuordnen. Wer auf konkrete Anwendungen oder Probleme hinweist, auf die sich die eigene Forschung bezieht. Wer die eigene Motivation deutlich macht, warum er an gerade diesem Thema arbeitet.
