INTERVIEW: Jason Maude – Thoughts on Changing Healthcare

CEO and Co-founder Jason Maude tells his story of how Isabel Healthcare – The Diagnosis Checklist was started after his daughter, Isabel, was misdiagnosed.  In trying to make sense of the reasons why Isabel was misdiagnosed Jason was determined to find a way to to prevent misdiagnosis from happening to others. Jason realised that healthcare providers, and the patients themselves, would best be served if patient’s could use a differential diagnosis tool. The purpose of this diagnosis tool is to match the patient’s symptoms and cross-check them through a database of diagnoses to come up with a diagnostic checklist. The following MedCrunch interview with Jason Maude was conducted at the Health 2.0 Europe 2012 Conference in Berlin, Germany. What made this interview unique was the candor and openness of Mr. Maude in sharing his thoughts and convictions regarding medical reform and how to change healthcare.  This interview is more than a pitch for specific solution, rather it is insightful portrayal of what motivated one person to help improve healthcare. Jason Maude epitomises the entrepreneurial mindset needed to “hack health” and he is bringing meaningful change to an ailing system. MedCrunch: You were motivated to start Isabel because of a family [medical] issue; how could you encourage others (with a similar experience) […]

Dr. Tim Ringrose is the CEO of Doctors.net.uk the leading independent network of medical professionals in Europe. MedCrunch met up with Dr. Ringrose at the Health 2.0 Conference in Berlin. MedCrunch: Dr. Ringrose could you please explain to our readers what Doctors.net.uk is. Tim Ringrose:  Doctors.net.uk is an online professional network, free for doctors to use. It has now over 196,000 UK doctor members, which sums up to the vast majority of UK physicians. One in four UK doctors will use it within a 24-hour period. They feel Doctors.net.uk is a secure place on the net where they can access credible information, discuss questions and cases with each other, and complete CME (Continuing Medical Education) modules.  They also use it as a way to find out about new therapies and products; and that is where our revenue streams come in.  We do research for pharmaceutical companies, device companies, healthcare providers, charities, governments and we can also deliver communication programs. For example, if a company has a new product, say for diabetes, and they want to target a particular group of doctors, we can specifically target just the doctors they want to reach with promotional information, but we make it clinically relevant, […]

Health 2.0 Europe 2012 – Conference Review

The 2012 Health 2.0 European Conference held this past week in Berlin was a great success. With over 300 attendees from over 30 countries and an impressive lineup of 75 speakers, Health 2.0 Europe proved to be a unique experience.  Our global correspondents were present at this conference to discover new and emerging innovations in Medicine and to measure the pulse of the eHealth entrepreneurial landscape. Our conclusion: the eHealth scene is extremely fit and healthy, growing strong, and poised to revitalize medicine and healthcare in BIG ways. As a conference, Health 2.0 has an incredible track record of introducing new and emerging eHealth and Medical Technology companies.  This year’s European conference was no exception, highlighting over 50 unique eHealth / Medical solutions. According to Pascal Lardier (@pascal_lardier) Health 2.0′s International Ambassador, “the essence of Health 2.0 is that: “we [as a conference company] show products rather than talking about health topics;” and this conference primarily ”showcases new technologies and let’s these new technologies inspire the conference attendees.”  This year’s event was no exception with a truly inspiring showcase of technology solutions which will potentially make an impact on patients and care-providers and possibly help reshape healthcare delivery and medicine in […]
